Rapid Entire Body Assessment Overview Transcript
Hey everyone, this is Mark Middlesworth of ErgoPlus. Today, I want to answer a couple of questions for you in this video. Number one, what is the Rapid Entire Body Assessment? And number two, isn’t there a better way?
So first of all, the REBA or Rapid Entire Body Assessment is an ergonomic assessment tool that uses a simple postural analysis system that provides a quick and easy evaluation of jobs that may have MSD risk factors due to awkward postural exertions. So a paper worksheet is used to provide input and a scoring method with an action level or a final REBA score, action level output.
In section A of the worksheet you’ll evaluate for neck, trunk, leg position as well as a force and load score. In section B on the right side of the paperwork sheet, you evaluate the upper arm, lower arm position as well as the wrist position. You’ll assess coupling or the grip on any product being moved as well as an activity score.
So a score of one would indicate minimal risk, score of two to three low risk, four to seven medium risk, 8 to 10 high risk, and 11 and above forget it. No, very, very high risk.
Okay. So the scoring methodology on this worksheet does get a little bit messy as you evaluate the neck and trunk position and leg position, et cetera. Take it to conversion charts, move numbers around and scores around. Same thing for section B analysis. You’ll score for upper arm, lower arm and wrist. Take those to table B, a conversion table. And then you again, you move numbers around and finally you get to a final REBA score.
Now, second question, is there a better way? Absolutely. There’s a better way. So let me show you what the better way is. We’ve developed a calculator that’s web based on our platform that you can use to quickly and simply and easily without all the conversion tables come up with your REBA score. So step one is to select the neck position. You just have those three possibilities with two different neck adjustment possibilities for side bending or twisting, there’s five possibilities, three, four, five, six different possibilities for the trunk position base score, with two possible trunk adjustments for again, twisting and side bending of the trunk.
There’s a lower leg score and a leg adjustment depending upon whether the worker is able to stand with weight equally on both feet and there’s a load four score for this section as well. You click next, you’ll go to the next section, which is the upper arm position scoring and adjustments. The lower arm position scoring. You’ll hit the next button, you’ll do the risk position score and any risks adjustments for radio and ulnar deviation or pronation and supination. You’ll assess the coupling and select that and you’ll select the activity score for section B.
And you’ll push calculate, it takes all those tables away and get results and what you’ll end up with is a final REBA score, which in this case is seven, and a risk index which is a ratio between the action level or the design goal for a safe REBA assessment, which is a score of four.
So the action level is four, the actual score is seven so we have a risk index of 1.75. We have developed a step by step guide for the REBA assessment that walks you through how to determine each position for the postural analysis. So much deeper dive and we were able to get into today in this short little video.
So I would encourage you to check out the step by step guide to REBA and as well as the calculators and all that can be found if you go to ergo-plus.com/platform. And you can create a free account there and check out all of our calculators and guides for no charge. I would encourage you to check that out.
We’re about building a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace, and we do that by thinking prevention. Have a great day everyone.
