Ergonomics Resources
“Ergonomics matches workplace conditions and job demands to a person’s capabilities, to improve worker safety and productivity. Applying the science of ergonomics can be especially helpful in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI), which is the most common work-related injury in B.C.”

Prevent Shoulder Injuries
“Most job demands require that at least 90% of the work is done with the arms out in front of body. This sustained posture leads to muscle imbalances over time, with tightness developing in the front muscles and weakness in the back muscles of the shoulder. Because most workers don’t know how to counteract these sustained forward arm postures to maintain good shoulder balance, impingement of the rotator cuff tendons frequently develops as a result.”

What is a Musculoskeletal Disorder?
“We use the term “musculoskeletal disorder” because it accurately describes the problem. Other common names for MSDs are “repetitive motion injury”, “repetitive stress injury”, “overuse injury” and many more. The problem with using that kind of terminology is that it implicates a singular cause for damage to the musculoskeletal system – repetition and stress. This is limiting because more and more research is pointing to multiple causative risk factors leading to MSDs.”
